Welcome to September and Welcome to spring.
Spring is an awesome time to think about redecorating, changing things up a bit and giving your spaces a fresh new look.
Here are my styling tips for right now.
Mixing Timbers in the home.
I get asked this question a lot. So can I put a timber table on a timber floor?? Does it have to match? The answer is YES you can and NO don’t match it. You can go a complete contrast to your floors or you can go something in the same tone but it doesn’t have to match. Once you start matching timbers you will create a big headache. Don’t have any more than 3 different timbers in the one space. I have a very chunky dark timber table on light oak flooring and it works great.
Grouping side tables instead of coffee tables.
We don’t have to style with coffee tables. Side tables are much more functional. They can be moved to the sides of sofas when guests are over or grouped in the center. They don’t need to match and can be different heights. They can be moved all around the house and you don’t always need to have something on them. That’s the good thing about side tables. Once you have a few good sets you wont go back.
Rugs, Rugs, Rugs.
Rooms are just not complete without a rug. YES we put rugs on carpet. The biggest trick to zone areas in your home is with rugs. If you need to define a sitting area, kids corner, dining room use a rug to do so. You can place them in bedrooms too, either under the end of the bed or off to the side. There are lots of different shapes and sizes, patterns and texture. Always measure and get the scale right. Rugs are art for the floor and its best to buy them after all your other big ticket items are decided upon..
